PS2's MechaCon Chip Firmware Finally Reverse-Engineered After 26 Years

Modder DiscoStarslayer has successfully reverse-engineered the full firmware of the MechaCon chip used in early PlayStation 2 models after four years of work. The chip controlled the disc drive and was part of the console's game protection system. Previously its contents were essentially a black box since the PS2's release. The breakthrough enables deeper study, new console modifications, improved emulation, and running unofficial software on original hardware.
