Early Steam Was Codenamed Grid and Worked Like BitTorrent

Counter-Strike co-creator Minh Le revealed that an early version of Steam was codenamed Grid and was designed to distribute games using peer-to-peer technology similar to BitTorrent. Instead of downloading files only from Valve's servers, users' computers would have shared game parts with each other. Valve ultimately dropped the idea due to security concerns and the need to maintain control over game files.
